The Dilemma of Article 370

The Dilemma of Article 370

By Aisha Allana

Supposed to be a temporary provision…

Article 370 was incorporated to bring normality and strengthen democracy in the state of J&K

However got stuck in its own vicious circle..

The then ministers thought it would help to overcome the said shortcomings of the state and the people…

And later the very article could be repealed once the purpose is solved…

Now when the state shows visible development and attachment from the union the state assembly opposes the revoking of the article..

Yes there is a clause that the amendment to do away with the article need to have the consent of the state assembly…

It is a never ending predicament which seems to be in its own coil and dragged under the political will…

This unending tussle is creating unnecessary social and economical problems in the name of autonomy and the granted autonomy isn’t helping either…

The union and autonomous politics is driving J&K into mere aloofness that is affecting the local development and the locals at large…

One of which is terrorism, unemployment and neighbourhood pressure…

POK and Aksai Chin slipped like butter from Indian hands and the growing Chinese influence in the region is only worsening the matter…

Well the Constitution makers did not intend to make permanent amendments like Article 35A granting special rights and privileges to the permanent residents of J&K…

It’s just a corollary that is creating an autocratic feeling amongst the thriving politicians…

When Article 370 makes the people of J&K aloof from the country, the Article 35A drifts away the non permanent residents of J&K from the very state who are still Indian citizens…

This efficacy for power is taking a toll on the citizens…

In turn causing severe instability in the so called ‘Heaven on Earth’ Jammu and Kashmir..
